Tonight, Epic launched Unreal Engine 5 and announced it would release a preview version in early 2021. Officials have released a video titled "Lumen in the Land of Nanite," a live demonstration of the PlayStation 5 in real time.
Officially, artists who use Nanite Virtual Micro-Polygon Geometry can make all the geometric details that can be seen by the human eye. With the advent of Nanite Virtual Geometry, film-quality artwork consisting of hundreds of millions of polygons could be imported. Directly on the Unreal Machine - either from the Zbrush format or CAD data scanned with photogrammetry - and Nanite geometry can be transferred and scaled in real time, so that polygon counts and memory need not be budgeted by polygons or number of tags or to bake details on normal cards or edit LOD manually without losing image quality.
Lumen is a fully dynamic global lighting solution that responds to scenes and lighting changes in real time without requiring special hardware for tracking light. This system produces indirect specular reflections and diffuse reflections that bounce endlessly into large and detailed scenes. Lumen can process anything from millimeters to kilometers. The system adjusts the lighting indirectly to each situation, and Lumen saves a lot of time because it doesn't have to wait for the light card to be baked or processed for UV light.
Unreal Engine 4 and 5 Schedule Unreal Engine 4.25 now supports next generation hosting platforms from Sony and Microsoft. Epic is currently working with host providers, several game developers and publishers to develop the next generation of games with Unreal Engine 4. Unreal Engine 5 will release a preview version in early 2021 and a full version later in 2021. This will support generation, current generation of hosts , PC, Mac, iOS and Android platforms. The compatible function is officially designed so that everyone can start the development of the first generation of the next in UE4 and migrate projects to UE5 in a timely manner.
EPIC also said that after the launch of a new generation of consoles in 2021, the game will be migrated to Unreal Engine 5 and the game can be downloaded and developed for free with Unreal Engine. As of today, however, the threshold will be raised when the total game income reaches $ 1 million for the first time. Unreal Engine's new licensing terms offer game developers much cheaper treatment than licensing models for other machines and retroactively until January 1, 2020.
